Jane's Walk at UBC

The late Jane Jacobs was an urbanist and activist who championed a community-based approach to city building. On May 4 2016, Jane would have been 100 years old, and plans to celebrate her centenary are underway around the world, including at the University of British Colubia (UBC). Join in the tribute on May 6th at noon by coming out to an exciting Jane’s walk with Campus and Community Planning Urban Designer, Scot Hein. In this unique tour of campus, we will explore how the UBC campus is emerging into an urban village

Intrigued by what the University of British Columbia (UBC) Vancouver campus will look like in a couple years? Or want to get the scoop of how new developments will animate our campus?

UBC in itself is a small city that is urbanizing to become a dynamic place to study, and live. This year's Jane's Walk is all about our urbanizing campus, and how development is adding to the vibrancy of UBC campus. You will also have the opportunity to explore UBC's beautiful public realm improvements; part of a 15-year plan to improve and update public spaces and animate, invigorate and bring life to campus.

Jane’s Walks are free, locally organized walking tours that give people the opportunity to get together to explore and celebrate their neighbourhoods. They are held annually around the world to celebrate urbanist Jane Jacobs, an advocate for sustainable and community-centred neighbourhoods.  Jane’s Walks are not only educational, they are fun as well, and provide a great opportunity to meet you neighbours, make new friends and learn and share information!

  • When: Friday, May 6, 2016, 12:00-1:00
