UTown Community Animation Grants Fall 2016

The UTown@UBC Grant Selection Committee is excited to announce the winners of our newest set of grants, Community Animation Grants made possible by support from the Vancouver Foundation Neighbourhood Small Grants Program

Thank you to all those who applied for our Community Animation Grants!

Congratulations to the community members who were awarded a total of $5000 for their projects. Here's a description of the projects:

Regalia Basics Making Workshop:

Hosted by the Indigenous Students Association UBC, this workshop will facilitate conversations about wellness issues that indigenous students face while practicing the regalia making tradition, which will has a long history of facilitating reconciliation at UBC. 

Student Development Initiative Launch Event:

This meet-up aims to raise consciousness of issues surrounding aboriginal youth issues and empower them to create change. This project aims to foster positive relationships between students, staff, faculty, UBC residents as well as members of the Musqueam band.

Lights on the Roof:

Lights on the Roof is a community lantern festival that will take place at the rooftop garden on the 4th floor of the AMS Nest on December 2nd. It will be a free event showcasing multiple community art pieces, creative activities, local musicians, and good company. The inspiration for this event comes from a desire to challenge perceptions around gardens and public spaces.

Pachamama:

A cultural night of sorts, Pachamama aims to give the UBC community a taste of the Ecuadorian culture. The night promises to be one filled of food, fun and entertainment featuring entertainers of all kinds whether it be a magician or a salsa performance.

Sustainability Fair: 

The Sustainability Fair will feature various sustainability-related organizations, businesses and programs from both UBC campus and the broader Vancouver. The fair aims to promote the social, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability by highlighting hot topics in sustainability.
