Music on the Point: A UTown@UBC Community Concert

UTown@UBC is very excited to sponsor our first-ever community concert series, in collaboration with the renowned UBC School of Music! Music on the Point: Concerts with Personality, is a series of performances and insightful commentary, featuring UBC School of Music personalities, and promises an intimate look at life inside the music.

The first of three concerts takes place September 27th with guitarist Daniel Bolshoy and flautist Paolo Bortolussi performing a concert they call “Toward the Sea, Under the Mountains.” In this performance, they capture musical personalities from around the world.  There is music to charm everyone: Appalachian folk songs; virtuosic Indian raga; sultry Argentinian tangos and an evocation to mystical Japan. The works are: Toru Takemitsu Toward the Sea; Astor Piazzolla Histoire du Tango; Manuel De Falla; Suite Popular Espanola  (transcribed by Kochanski/Bortolussi/Bolshoy); Ravi Shankar L'Aube Enchantée; and excerpts from Robert Beaser’s Mountain Songs. Light refreshments will be served after the show.

Tickets are available online, or at the Chan Centre Ticket Office. Bring your UTown@UBC Community Service Card or UNA Community Service Card to the Chan Centre when you purchase your tickets, and receive $5 off.
