Welcome Santa Ono, 15th President and Vice-chancellor of UBC

We are excited to welcome Santa Ono, celebrated president of University of Cincinnati and an accomplished researcher and educator as the newest president and vice-chancellor of #UBC. 

In his inaugural speech, Ono expressed optimistic sentiments towards the university, "UBC is uniquely positioned to rise from excellence to eminence". 

Ono is no stranger to UBC and Vancouver, "I am proud I was born here in 1962 at St. Paul's Hospital and UBC offered my father his first tenure-track job in Mathematics". The 53-year-old holds a biology degree from the University of Chicago and an experimental medicine PhD from McGill University. He has held prestigious positions at Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, University College London and Emory University.
