Happy New Year!

Our New Year's Resolution is to make UTown@UBC an even better place to live, work and learn together!

As I noted in my last blog post, 2013 was a great year at UTown@UBC, and along with our community partners, we look forward to making 2014 even better!  There's a lot to look forward to in the next few months:

Music on the Point: Concerts with Personality

We’re kicking off 2014 with a Music on the Point community concert on January 17th at Barnett Hall. The UBC School of Music has done a phenomenal job organizing these concerts, and we are so happy to help bring glimpses of “life inside the music” to the UTown@UBC community!

UTown@UBC Youth Leadership Program

UTown@UBC and the UNA have hired a Youth Program Coordinator to help facilitate youth activities on campus, namely a brand-new youth leadership program! The new UTown@UBC Youth Leadership Program will help our youth residents ages 13-17 develop strong leadership skills, connect with one another, and get to know their campus community. On January 11th, several youth will have the opportunity to participate in the UBC Student Leadership Conference, the largest student-led conference at UBC, which is sure to be a wonderful experience.  The program officially starts January 17th, so be sure to register at the Old Barn Community Centre if you're interested!

UTown@UBC Summer Festival

Once again, we'll be teaming up with UBC REC to bring you a fun-filled afternoon of food and friendly competition with the UTown@UBC Summer Festival. Be sure to check back often for updates and information on when and where this will take place. You won't want to miss it!

UTown@UBC Kids Fit and Youth Fit

Under the leadership of senior-level students at the UBC School of Kinesiology, Kids Fit and Youth Fit will be back in the Spring! Check back for more information about how and when to register for these very popular programs!

Walk 'n Roll to School Celebration Week

Throughout 2013, we focused on promoting safe, active transportation in our community with Walk ‘n Roll to School Celebration Week in May and October. We’re continuing our quest to get our community walking and riding in 2014, so stay tuned for more information about upcoming Walk ‘n Roll events!

UTown@UBC Community Grants

This Fall, we awarded UTown@UBC Community Grants to nine projects that help contribute to social vibrancy of life at UBC. We’re giving UTown@UBC residents another opportunity to help build community on campus with a new cycle of community grants this winter! Applications will be posted in mid-January, with a tentative deadline of February 28th. Get creative and share your ideas for making UTown@UBC an even better place to live, work and learn!
